WESTAR STUDIOS
1 PRIORY WAY, SOUTHALL
THE STORY 1983-2000

Westar Studios was set up in 1982 by myself Graeme Tollitt and it ran until 2000. It was built on the site of Airport Studios which ceased trading in 1981 due to huge tax debts, the original owner Jeff Dewhurst built the original recording studio from the proceeds of a deal struck up after failing to turn up having been re called to a second audition for a band called Deep Purple. Jeff was an excellent guitarist but a bad business man. I started running the studio after the property owners asked if I wanted to take over the running as I had been hiring a PA system to the studios to facilitate rehearsals, it was a no brainer for me, I took over two small rehearsal rooms and expanded very quickly up to 6 rehearsal rooms and a 16 track recording studio, later converted to 24 tracks.

During the time I ran the studios I engineered and produced, along with several other engineers, hundreds of bands and artists, some very good some not so but all very enjoyable and rewarding. Some of those artists were very talented and I managed to keep some the recordings made at the time, I recently found myself with time on my hands and decided to dig out some of my favourite sessions and digitally re master them.

We are in process of creating profiles on this website for many of the artists, featuring the music they recorded at Westar and where they are “NOW” today. Please check out Alice McLoughlin’s profile as an example, and there is more on its way with other Westar Artists profiles to be featured soon.
