British rock band Skin first appeared at Westar in 1992 under the name Harry’s Herberts. The line up was Myke Gray, guitar and Andy Robbins, bass, both from a previous band called Jagged Edge, Neville MacDonald, vocals and guitar and Dicki Fleszar on Drums.
The name was a construct by their road manger Harry Mohan (Sanctuary Music) who made the original booking and when prompted to provide a name for the band just said “ book them in as Harry’s Herberts for now” and so it was until some months later and a few names passed they settled on Skin. Over the next few months they honed there skills and recorded in excess of 30 songs at Westar. The band were shipped off to the USA to record their first album which was released in 1993, two singles were released and both made the top 20 nabbing them a Top Of The Pops slot with Tower Of Strength in 1994. They went on to tour all over the UK and later, most of Europe.
The band recorded a further two albums and continued on until in 1999 when they decided to go there separate ways.
They re-formed and played gigs between 2011 and 2013 to great acclaim but it didn’t last.
Myke Gray is now pursuing a solo career and has released several albums, he is currently working with singer Kim Jennet. Neville MacDonald lives in South Wales and sings with Hand Of Dimes. Andy Robbins moved with his wife and two boys to Ireland. He still plays from time to time but is more gainfully employed as financial director of L’Oréal. Dicki Fleszar moved to California and has a wife and 3 children. He is to be found regularly touring with Jack Russell’s Great White and hosting various band nights at his local hop. Colin McLeod also played Hammond and Piano with Skin for most of their gigs but was never an official member.
